We Love You Cindy

I am SSG Christopher Bain and I was injured on April 8, 2004 (Attached to 1st Armored Division).

This was my best day in Iraq and my worse day in Iraq, all rolled up in one day that felt like an eternity.

I was a convoy commander taking about 12 other vehicles with me to LSA, Anaconda Iraq when I aproached the check point. I was clearing my weapon and letting my guys go thru the gate. Up toward my left side was an M1 Tank with a soldier on top manning a 240 machine gun, pulling security to our rear so we could advance into the the gate. This unknown soldier starts looking at me like I owe him money so I look up to him and ask, What are you looking at? He replies with throwing his hands in the air (ignoring me). So, being a staff sargeant, I went up to the tank and I find out it is my twin brother, who shouldn't be in Iraq yet. His name is SGT Kim Bain, Kim replies to me saying his unit was pushed up 6 months for deployment.

As you can imagine, we called everyone to say, "guess who I am with over in Iraq right now?" We called our mom and dad, Kim's wife and my wife too. We spent the whole day together eating lunch and taking pictures until the time came when I had to leave for my base camp and continue my duties.

My last words to Kim were, "I will see you in 2 days bro, I love you." Kim replied with, "alright bro, I love you too and be careful."

I made it back to Al-Taji just fine with no problems. Then I was going to go back out for a patrol with a team of guys. As I gave a brief to my men before move out, we were ambushed with mortars and small arms fire. I started to get my troops cover and when all was well I went to get my cover under a truck. As I was running I was being hit with shrapenal to my rear. I dove underneath the truck, turned my self around toward the blast and Boom, Boom, Boom, I was hit with a mortar that landed 2 feet in front of me and 2 more times directly to my back. Thank God for Armored Plates. The mortars that hit my back were not armed, so they didn't blow up. My plate cracked but my back is fine. My left arm was torn up with my ring finger being severed and the tip of my pinky was blown off.

As if all of this was not enough, I was then shot thru the right elbow when I was trying to low crawl to another vehicle.

I am great now with little feeling in my right hand. My left arm is a dream come true, I still have it but it's been hell dealing with. I now have a electric stimulater in my spinal cord and it takes almost all of my pain away.

I want say Thank You for Second Chances.....

We Love you Cindy...........
